Viva to Cali and Cancun

VIVA inaugurated today its flights between Cali (CLO), Colombia, and Cancun (CUN), Mexico, which will have four weekly operations (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday).

Flight VH 350 departed from Alfonso Bonilla Aragon International Airport (CLO) at 12:40 (local time) and arrived at 15:51 (local time) at Cancun International Airport (CUN).

Viva will compete on this route with Wingo, Copa Holdings’ low-cost carrier, which offers three weekly flights on Boeing 737-800 aircraft.

In 2021, the route mobilized 23,683 passengers. This represented a 70% increase compared with 2019. By then 13,914 passengers traveled, according to data obtained through Aerocivil de Colombia.

Cancun is Viva’s eighth destination in Cali (CLO), joining Bogota (BOG), Cartagena (CTG), Medellin (MDE), Monteria (MTR), Riohacha (RCH), San Andres (ADZ), and Santa Marta (SMR). It will also inaugurate operations between Cali and Mexico City (MEX) on June 15 with three weekly flights.

VIVA thus becomes Cali’s third most important airline, with more than 130,000 seats per month, representing 16.8% of the airline’s supply.

With the inauguration of this route, the ultra low-cost carrier continues to bet on the growing market between Mexico and Colombia. Such market has reached record levels with Mexican carriers (Aeromexico, Viva Aerobus, and Volaris) and three Colombian carriers (Avianca, VIVA, and Wingo) competing fiercely.
