After investments in technology and works, the ANAC upgraded Aeroparque Jorge Newbery to Operational Category, certifying it for ILS CAT II landings, allowing it to improve operational safety in low visibility conditions.
According to a statement issued by the aeronautical authority, ANAC promoted, executed and coordinated since September 2021 the necessary actions for runway 13 of Aeroparque Jorge Newbery to perform CAT II instrument approach operations as of April 21, 2022.
Construction of a new runway.
The new runway was completely rebuilt, extending the length of the north and south headers to 2715m in length, with 615m more runway and 20m more total width, providing greater operational safety, more operational capacity and more connectivity for domestic and international tourism.
These actions reduce the incidence of flight diversions due to marginal weather conditions and increase operational safety levels.
The works released to service on March 15, 2021 and executed by the aerodrome operator, as well as the investments made by EANA in the new ILS CAT III and AWOS CAT III systems, allowed the necessary equipment to achieve the new operational category.

This system will enable Aeroparque Jorge Newbery International Airport to operate in reduced visibility conditions, even with a runway visual range between 800 and 300 meters and a cloud ceiling between 60 and 30 meters.
Aeroparque’s current situation
Once the works were inaugurated, Aeroparque once again received regional flights from neighboring countries and Peru. In addition, for the first time, SKY Airline, JetSMART and Flybondi started operating at Jorge Newbery.
According to data obtained by Aviacionline through ANAC Argentina, during the first quarter of 2021, 433,488 passengers were registered on international flights. Current international operations are:
