At the Aircraft Interiors Expo (AIX), which runs until tomorrow in Hamburg, Safran announced that Turkish airline SunExpress will become the first customer for its new Z200 seat, developed for economy class cabins on short- and medium-range aircraft.
The airline selected the «Efficient» version of the model which, according to its manufacturer, is one of the lightest seats on the market. In this way, it will contribute to reducing the carbon footprint of the operations by eliminating «more than 12.000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions over the next ten years».
SunExpress will offer the new seats onboard its Boeing 737 MAX 8s starting in the spring of 2023. «The comfort of our guests and a sustainable long-term strategy are clearly our focus», said Nicole Haginger, Product and Customer Journey Senior Manager at SunExpress. «With these new seats, which will be in use as of 2023, we are combining both», she added.
For his part, Vincent Mascré, CEO of Safran Seats, stressed that the new generation of economy class seats offer a performance that benefits «passengers, operators and the environment.»

The seat design reduced the number of parts required for its manufacturing and increased the useful life of the product. Compared to the previous generation, the Z200 offers an additional one inch (2.54 centimeters) of legroom and recline of up to 28 inches (71 centimeters).
