Due to sanctions, Conviasa suspends flights to Argentina and Chile

Conviasa announced the temporary suspension of its flights to Santiago (SCL) and Buenos Aires (EZE) since suppliers at Comodoro Arturo Merino Benitez International Airport and Ministro Pistarini Ezeiza International Airport will not provide ground services and fuel supply for the operations of the state-owned airline amid sanctions related to the detention of an Iranian Boeing 747-300M in Argentina last month.

As the company is unable to operate its own aircraft on its routes to Argentina and Chile, it will offer passengers a new schedule that includes a technical stopover to transfer passengers to their destination (last week, it flew via Santa Cruz de la Sierra-VVI, Bolivia by chartering a flight with Amaszonas).

Conviasa Chile Argentina

Special non-stop services between Caracas (CCS) – Lima (LIM) are also affected for the same reasons as the routes to Argentina and Chile, but the company has not yet made any statement regarding its operations in Peru.

Conviasa has operated several special commercial flights in South American nations, with the purpose of bringing back Venezuelan passengers stranded abroad during the pandemic. The company continues to operate its services to Quito (UIO) and Guayaquil (GYE) in Ecuador.

In June, a Boeing 747-300M of Emtrasur, Conviasa’s cargo subsidiary, was detained in Argentina due to the Iranian crew’s ties with terrorist groups. This prompted a series of sanctions against the state airline, which also incorporated two other Airbus A340-600 (formerly owned by the Iranian carrier Mahan Air).
