At the Farnborough International Airshow, Pratt & Whitney announced the establishment of a state-of-the-art Engineering Center (IEC) in Bangalore, India. The new center will be dedicated to the provision of contract engineering services. As reported by the company, it is scheduled to begin operations in 2023.
Once completed, it will employ 500 engineers and professionals from different areas. The company has already begun the first stage of the recruitment process. In addition, and as part of Pratt & Whitney’s integrated global engineering operations, the IEC will work closely with centers in the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico and Poland.
It will be located in Yelahanka, Bangalore, next to the Pratt & Whitney India Capability Center (ICC). The existing facility supports global supply chain operations. It was opened this year, as part of United Technologies Corporation India, and employs nearly 200 people.
«Pratt & Whitney’s India Engineering Center will be a first-of-its-kind investment for our company in India», noted Geoff Hunt, the company’s Senior VP of Engineering. In addition, the executive highlighted the importance of the new facilities will have in the development of the fielded geared turbofan and in the advancement of sustainable propulsion solutions.
The company also confirmed the appointment of DJ Dalal as Pratt and Whitney’s North American Project Director and Rema Ravindran as General Manager of the Engineering Center in Bangalore.
Other facilities in India
Pratt & Whitney also currently operates the Customer Training Center (CTC) in Hyderabad. There, it offers specialized engine training to airline engineers and technicians from India and the rest of the world. This is the company’s third such facility worldwide. The center provides training on the Airbus A320 family, one of the most popular choices among operators in the country.
