Edelweiss strengthens its 2023 boreal summer schedule by expanding its operations to multiple destinations in Canada, the United States and Costa Rica. It is also adding an extra Airbus A320 to its short/medium haul fleet to expand its operations in Europe and North Africa.
United States
The route to Denver (DEN) will increase from one weekly frequency to three weekly flights; Las Vegas (LAS) will be operated three times a week; and Tampa (TPA) will restart before the start of the summer season from February 17, 2023, with one weekly flight and in April increases to two weekly operations.
The company is still suspending its services to Orlando (MCO) and San Diego (SAN), both of which were operated prior to the pandemic. Edelweiss will offer three routes between Switzerland and the United States.
Canada
Vancouver (YVR) will be served four times a week; Calgary (YYC) will maintain the same operation with two weekly flights; to increase its North American offering, Edelweiss will fly between 4-5 times a week on the Zurich (ZRH) and Montreal (YUL) route between May and October 2023 marketing this service on behalf of SWISS.
By next summer the leisure airline will serve three destinations in Canada, this increase is thanks to the addition of an extra Airbus A340-300, increasing its intercontinental fleet to five aircraft.
Costa Rica and the Caribbean
In Costa Rica, the company will offer three flights a week to San José (SJO) and two flights a week to Liberia/Guanacaste (LIR), these services are operated via SJO. In the Caribbean for the summer of 2023 routes to Cancun (CUN), Havana (HAV), Punta Cana (PUJ) and Puerto Plata (POP). Montego Bay, Jamaica (MBJ) will be served during spring and fall break with a weekly non-stop frequency at POP.
Africa, Middle East, and Indian Ocean Islands
Male, Maldives (MLE) will have a weekly frequency with additional flights in spring and beginning fall break; In Tanzania, the carrier will offer service to Kilimanjaro (JRO) and Zanzibar (ZNZ) with two flights a week; during the spring the routes to Mahe, Seychelles (SEZ) and Mauritius (MRU) will be available, but not in the summer months.
Muscat, Oman (MCT) will return for the fall. For next year Cape Town (CPT) will return in September and resume operations Thailand after three years resuming operations to Phuket (HKT) for the autumn vacations.
An extra Airbus A320 to the fleet
Edelweiss will acquire an Airbus A320ceo from its sister airline SWISS, with this new aircraft, the leisure airline will expand its short/medium haul network. By the 2023 summer season, the airline’s fleet will consist of 13 Airbus A320s and 5 Airbus A340-300s.
