The Peruvian Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MTC) approved JetSMART to operate international passenger, cargo and mail routes from Peru to Colombia, Bolivia, Ecuador and Chile as reported by El Peruano.
This authorization was granted through Directorial Resolution N° 0789-2022-MTC/12 of the General Directorate of Civil Aeronautics (DGAC) and will be valid for four years. The airline must comply with the operator’s certificate, as well as the technical indications to start these new international services.
«We are proud to have achieved this authorization in such a short time of operation in the country, since it is part of our plans in 2023 to operate international routes from Lima and Arequipa, thus reaffirming our purpose to continue decentralizing and providing greater opportunity to fly at ultra-low prices, in safe aircraft and on time,» said Francesca Luna, general manager of JetSMART in Peru.
Routes
JetSMART will be able to fly international services from Peru through Lima (LIM), Cusco (CUZ) and Arequipa (AQP):
Colombia
- Lima (LIM): Bogotá (BOG).
- Cusco (CUZ): Bogota (BOG).
- Arequipa (AQP): Bogotá (BOG), Cartagena (CTG) and Medellín (MDE).
Bolivia

«We see that the South American international market is of a very relevant size and presents good opportunities for the low-cost segment. Therefore, we see it likely to have more international routes operated from Peru and thus continue to promote tourism, economic development in our region, and thus approach our goal of transporting 100 million people by 2028,» added Luna.
Growth in South America
In September 2022, JetSMART began flights between Buenos Aires (EZE) and Lima (LIM), the airline’s second international service in Peru, after Santiago (SCL). It also expanded its network with a new route from Ezeiza Airport (EZE) to Asunción (ASU), becoming the first low-cost carrier to reach Paraguay.
The airline plans to add a new service between Montevideo (MVD) and Rio de Janeiro (GIG), which will start on March 28. JetSMART operates 16 non-stop international services in Chile, Peru, Brazil, Colombia, Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay, which it complements with its offer of 79 routes in South America.
