Viva Aerobus will boost Nuevo Leon’s international connectivity with a new non-stop service between Monterrey (MTY) and Bogota (BOG) starting June 8. The announcement was made at a «Nuevo Leon Informa» press conference.
«We are excited to see the sustained growth of Viva Aerobus in our capital city and applaud this much needed direct connection between Bogota and Monterrey. This new route could not be more timely, now that we are focused on exploring new opportunities to attract international tourism and generate new investment,» said Maricarmen Martinez Villarreal, Secretary of Tourism of Nuevo Leon.
Flight Itinerary
- Monterrey – Bogota Flight VB 694 MTY 18:15 – BOG 12:10+1 Thursday and Sunday.
- Bogota – Monterrey Flight VB 695 BOG 01:10 – MTY 05:15 Monday and Friday.
The flights will be operated in Airbus A321 and A320 aircraft with a capacity of 240 and 180 seats in single configuration respectively and promotional fares are available from USD 77 one way.
Strengthening connectivity to Mexico’s third largest international market
According to data compiled by Aviacionline through the Federal Civil Aviation Agency (AFAC), Colombia in 2022 was Mexico’s third most important international market in terms of passenger traffic, behind only the United States and Canada. Between the two nations, 2,019,410 were mobilized with an occupancy factor of 77% in 14,842 operations, this represents an increase of 131.2% compared to 2021 levels.
Viva Aerobus currently offers non-stop flights from Mexico City (MEX), Cancun (CUN) and Guadalajara (GDL) to Bogota (BOG) and is the only airline that connects El Dorado Airport (BOG) with three Mexican cities. The low-cost airline mobilized 184,839 passengers between Colombia and Mexico between January – November 2022, according to the Colombian Civil Aeronautics.
«This new route builds a bridge between two twinned countries and becomes a milestone for Monterrey’s connectivity, as it is the first time an airline offers point-to-point flights between this city and a destination in South America,» said Juan Carlos Zuazua, CEO of Viva Aerobus.
Monterrey more connected
With the start of this new Viva Aerobus route, Bogota (BOG) will be the only South American destination from Monterrey (MTY). The airline continues to consolidate its operations in Nueva Leon with more than 60 daily flights, 30 domestic and 8 international routes.
General Mariano Escobedo International Airport (MTY) in 2022 mobilized a total of 1,397,955 international passengers according to figures from OMA Statistics, a 98.44% recovery in passenger traffic compared to 2019 levels.
Currently, Monterrey (MTY) has international flights to Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW), New York (JFK), Miami (MIA), Phoenix (PHX), Detroit (DTW), Los Angeles (LAX), Atlanta (ATL), Austin (AUS), Houston (IAH), Chicago O’ Hare (ORD), Las Vegas (LAS), San Antonio (SAT), Panama – Tocumen (PTY), Madrid (MAD) and soon Bogota (BOG).
