Peru: Lima Airport mobilized eighteen million passengers in 2022 and continues to recover

Lima Airport

Jorge Chávez International Airport (LIM) mobilized a total of 18,619,536 passengers, this represents a 78.96% recovery in passenger traffic compared to 2019 levels. Lima (LIM) is positioned as the fifth busiest airport in Latin America.

Lima’s recovery was affected in 2022 due to health restrictions during the first quarter and the cancellation of domestic flights because of the social crisis last December.

Regarding domestic traffic, 11.7 million passengers were mobilized, an increase of 53% compared to the same period last year. For international traffic, 6.9 million passengers were mobilized, showing actual growth (119%) when compared to 2021.

«Despite the conjuncture, in 2022 we managed to reach 79% of the pre-pandemic passenger traffic (2019), and for 2023 we estimate more than 23 million passengers, a level very close to the 2019 traffic. Jorge Chávez International Airport, in Lima, continues to be an attractive hub for international connections» said Emilio Parada, Commercial Strategy and Marketing Manager of Lima Airport Partners.

«We have been able to recover the number of commercial airlines that operated before the pandemic, thus encouraging competition and giving our passengers a better offer according to their needs,» Parada added.

In the domestic market, growth remained stable, with LATAM Airlines recovering more than 90% of its domestic operations as of July, and in June JetSMART Peru began flights at Jorge Chávez Airport (LIM).
