Mexican low-cost carrier Viva Aerobus will resume flights between Monterrey (MTY) and Mexicali (MXL), the company announced this week. It will thus become the only operator to cover the route with direct connections.
Viva Aerobus is already marketing the services through its official sales channels. The first flight will take place on 1 June. Initially, the company will maintain a frequency of six flights per week, on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays.
«We are excited to return to Mexicali, as well as continue to strengthen our service to Monterrey», said Juan Carlos Zuazua, the airline’s CEO. «By expanding our offerings and connecting more destinations, we provide passengers with a safe, reliable option, with new aircraft and low fares so they can travel more easily», he added.

Growth in Baja California
With the addition of flights to Mexicali, the airline will also reaffirm its dominance in Monterrey, one of its main hubs. It is currently the largest operator at the airport of the capital city of Nuevo Leon. From there it maintains a network of thirty domestic routes and another seven international routes.
In addition, the new connection will allow it to expand its presence in Baja California and northwest Mexico. The company already operates in Tijuana (TIJ), another of its six bases, from where it offers air connections to eleven destinations.
