A ceremony was held in the Ecuadorian capital, led by Ecuador’s Minister of Tourism, Niels Olsen, local airport and tourism authorities, as well as executives of the Mexican low-cost airline.

Flight VB 456 was operated in an Airbus A320 registered as XA-VAQ, which took off from Cancun International Airport (CUN) at 21:39 local time and landed at Mariscal Sucre International Airport (UIO) at 01:00 the following day, after three hours and 21 minutes.

This month we have had a series of good news for Ecuador’s connectivity. We managed to get the amounts of the Ecodelta and Potencia Turística contributions reduced, so flying to and from Ecuador is now cheaper, and today we add a very important operation that connects Ecuador with Mexico, through Quito and Cancun airports“, said Niels Olsen, Ecuador’s Minister of Tourism.

Viva Aerobus flight schedule to Ecuador

  • Cancun – Quito Flight VB 456 CUN 21:25 – UIO 01:15+1 Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
  • Quito – Cancun Flight VB 457 UIO 02:00 – CUN 06:15 Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

The route is operated by Airbus A320 family aircraft and promotional fares are available from 40 USD for a single trip. Passengers can also connect to other destinations in Mexico through this service.

With this new connection, Viva Aerobus boosts international connectivity from Cancun, one of its six operational bases where it flies to more than 25 destinations. The low cost airline in 2022 mobilized to and from destinations in Quintana Roo more than 4.7 million passengers in 2022, this represents an increase of 27% compared to 2021 levels.

Today begins a new chapter in the relationship and connectivity between Mexico and Ecuador, because at Viva Aerobus we have built a bridge that gives everyone the opportunity to transcend borders thanks to a low-cost model that allows us to offer low prices so that people, by saving on their transportation, can travel more, extend their stay or can do more activities in the destinations they visit“, said Juan Carlos Zuazua, CEO of Viva Aerobus.

Market growth between Ecuador and Mexico

According to the Mexican Ministry of Tourism, during the first quarter of the year, Ecuador sent more than 17 thousand tourists to Mexico by air, which means an increase of 56% compared to the same period in 2022. In addition, Quito Tourism reported that in April 2022, the Aztec country was positioned among the 10 countries that generated the highest flow of air visitors to Quito.

In addition to its operations to the Ecuadorian capital, Viva Aerobus has services from Mexico City, Cancun, Guadalajara and Monterrey to Bogota and has an offer of 7,812 weekly seats between the Aztec country and South America, according to Cirium. The Mexican airline is also the only low-cost carrier flying between Mexico and Ecuador.
