WestJet is enhancing its winter schedule in British Columbia by improving connections from Vancouver International Airport (YVR) to sought-after vacation spots in Mexico. Additionally, the airline will provide extra service to Ixtapa and augment seat availability on multiple routes.

WestJet Schedules between Mexico and Vancouver (YVR)
- Cancun: nine flights weekly (operates year-round)
- San Jose del Cabo: eleven flights weekly (operates year-round)
- Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo: one flight weekly starting December 22, 2023
- Puerto Vallarta: nine flights weekly (operates year-round)
- Mazatlan: two flights weekly beginning November 3, 2023
- Huatulco: four flights weekly commencing October 29, 2023
For the winter schedule, WestJet will boost seat capacity on services from Vancouver (YVR) to Cancun and Puerto Vallarta, which will be flown on Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft, seating 320 across three classes (16 Business Class/28 Premium Economy/276 Economy).
The airline will provide over 70,000 seats monthly during the high season between Vancouver International Airport and Mexico, as reported by Cirium. WestJet stands as the principal airline operator in this segment. Furthermore, the company will enhance its flight capacity between the two regions by 14%.
Additional Options to Fly from the Vancouver Metropolitan Area
WestJet will broaden the choices for holiday travel by extending its offerings from Abbotsford International Airport, serving Vancouver with two flights to sunny locations in Mexico.
- Puerto Vallarta: two flights weekly starting December 5, 2023
- San Jose del Cabo: one flight weekly commencing December 4, 2023
Surge in Mexico – Canada Market
Per data acquired by Aviacionline from the Federal Civil Aviation Agency (AFAC), from January to June 2023, 2,757,991 passengers were transported with an 83.6% occupancy rate on 16,997 flights between Mexico and Canada, reflecting an 85.2% growth compared to the same period the previous year. In June, WestJet ranked as the second largest airline, capturing 21.8% of the market share.
