This Tuesday, Aerolíneas Argentinas announced that on Thursday morning, October 19th, a press conference will be held at the Jorge Newbery Aeroparque in Buenos Aires regarding the airline’s integration into the Abra Group.

For now, no further details are known about how the state-owned company might join this holding, whether through capital exchange or some form of joint venture, code-sharing agreement, or operational support. However, there is much speculation on this matter, especially so close to a crucial presidential election in Argentina, on October 22.

But, for confirmation of the details, we’ll have to wait until Thursday.

Update – 15:09

An hour after the first call for the press conference and the publication of this article, to clear some suspicions, Aerolíneas Argentinas clarified that the press conference will be about “a strategic cooperation agreement” with Abra Group.

What is Abra Group?

In May 2022, Latin American commercial aviation was shaken when Avianca and Gol Linhas Aéreas announced the creation of a new holding called Grupo Abra, which would act as an umbrella for both companies. It might also eventually include SKY, the Chilean-origin airline that also has a subsidiary in Peru.
