The LATAM Group announced that for «commercial needs» it will temporarily suspend its flights between Lima (LIM), Peru, and London/Heathrow (LHR), United Kingdom, from February 2 to March 30, 2024. This announcement comes less than a month after the route’s inauguration on December 2, 2023, currently operating five weekly flights with Boeing 787-8 airplanes.
Schedule of LATAM flights between Lima and London
- Lima – London flight LA 2488 LIM 21:00 – 13:55 (+1) LHR / Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.
- London – Lima flight LA 2489 LHR 22:00 – 06:05 (+1) LIM / Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.
This route has undergone several changes since its launch, as it was originally planned to be operated with a Boeing 787-9 with a capacity of 313 passengers (30 in business class and 283 in economy class), for a weekly offer of 3,130 seats. Subsequently, the capacity was reduced by scheduling the Boeing 787-8 with a capacity for 247 passengers, resulting in a weekly offer of 2,470 seats.
The suspension, which will last two months, aligns with the traditionally weakest period of passenger traffic and will allow LATAM to redirect efforts for the upcoming summer season in the northern hemisphere.
According to the statement issued by the Group, passengers affected by this suspension have various protection options, including:
- Protection via GRU on LATAM flights:
- Protection should be made according to the availability of the original cabin, in the lowest available class.
- The rerouting will be done involuntarily, maintaining the original fare basis and tariff structure.
- Enter the OSI in the reservation: OSI INVOL REROUTE DUE TO SKD CHG LAxxx CNLD and contact details of the passenger
- Protection via MAD on LATAM + Iberia flights
- If the customer is not satisfied with the proposed protection via GRU, the option of traveling on LATAM Holding and Iberia flights, with a connection in MAD, can be offered.
- The following should be considered:
- Protection on the LATAM flight should be made according to the availability of the original cabin, in the lowest available class.
- Protection on the Iberia flight should be done according to available classes.
