The government of Acre, led by the acting governor and president of the Legislative Assembly, Luiz Gonzaga, held strategic meetings with representatives from SLI Air Cargo and Peru Air to implement direct flights to Bolivia and Peru.
During the meeting, plans were discussed to establish air connections between Acre, Peru, and Bolivia, with the goal of promoting tourism, boosting the local economy, and improving regional integration, according to a press release reproduced by Aeroin.
Rio Branco is Acre’s main airport, handling over 400,000 passengers annually. It is connected to Cruzeiro do Sul (Gol), Belo Horizonte (Azul), Brasília (Gol and LATAM), Manaus (Gol), and Porto Velho (Azul).
In contrast, Cruzeiro do Sul is operated only by Gol, offering flights to Brasília and Rio Branco, and handles more than 120,000 travelers per year.
Three new routes to Bolivia and Peru from Acre
Among the proposed routes are direct flights between Rio Branco and Cusco (Peru), as well as Rio Branco and Cobija (Bolivia). From Cruzeiro do Sul, a connection to Pucallpa (Peru) is being planned.
According to Luiz Gonzaga, these initial connections would offer up to two weekly flights, depending on commercial demand.
“Governor Gladson Cameli and Vice Governor Mailza Assis aim to integrate these flights to strengthen relations between Acre and its neighbors. The next step is to coordinate details with Brazilian authorities and the Vinci Airports concessionaire,” said Gonzaga.
Peru Air’s Executive Director, Erick Fernández, highlighted the progress of the procedures: “The aircraft are ready. We are waiting for Brazil’s ‘ok’ to launch these routes as soon as possible.”
Meanwhile, Marcus Campos, a representative of Vinci Airports, stated that Acre is a priority for the company, which is working on implementing daytime flights between Rio Branco and Cruzeiro do Sul.
SLI Air Cargo and Peru Air are part of a joint venture under the PERBRA Holdings group, which aims to integrate resources and share expertise to optimize ground and air transport operations between Peru and Brazil.
