The CEO of Azul spoke about the outlook for the coming year and mentioned that the price of airline tickets could generally increase in 2025.
During the presentation of the financial results for the third quarter of 2024, John Rodgerson, the airline’s president, was asked by journalists about potential changes in fares, in the current context of a high dollar outlook for the coming months.
“The industry needs higher fares; that’s how the macroeconomic scenario is addressed. And everyone in the industry is struggling with engine and aircraft deliveries,” stated the executive in comments reproduced by our Brazilian associate media, AEROIN.
Azul reported that the exchange rate of the real against the dollar, which started the year at US$1 to R$4.85 and is now at R$5.75, will have an impact of approximately R$1.1 billion on the company’s cash flow, in addition to a cumulative impact (mostly this year, 2024) of around R$1.3 billion due to delays in aircraft and component deliveries.
Despite this, Azul recorded quarterly operating revenue of R$5.1 billion, resulting in a net loss of R$203 million in the third quarter of 2024, accumulating a total of R$1.2 billion in losses so far this year.
