In the framework of the Annual General Assembly which was held this Sunday in Bogota, the member airlines of the Latin American and Caribbean Air Transport Association (ALTA) elected Roberto Alvo, LATAM Airlines CEO, as the new President of the Executive Committee with immediate assumption and a one-year mandate, replacing Pedro Heilbron, CEO of Copa.
The executive has more than two decades of experience in the airline industry, having joined LAN in 2001. Prior to becoming CEO of the region’s largest airline group, he became Commercial Vice President, International Senior Vice President and Alliances, Administration and Finance Director at LAN Argentina, Financial Planning and Development Manager at LAN Airlines, and CFO of LAN Airlines.
«I am very honored by the position I am assuming at ALTA. The times we are living in, with a pandemic that has not yet ended and an accelerated climate change, demand major responsibilities from us. I am convinced that collaborative work among all of us who are part of the aviation industry will allow us to achieve solutions that will lead us to be more sustainable in the long term. We have a strategic role as an industry and my commitment is to help move towards that direction», said Roberto Alvo, LATAM Airlines CEO and ALTA’s Executive Committee Chairman.
On his part, José Ricardo Botelho, ALTA’s Executive Director & CEO, said, «I am pleased to welcome aboard as Chairman of ALTA’s Executive Committee Roberto Alvo, LATAM Airlines CEO, who has been performing as Vice Chairman of ALTA’s Executive Committee since 2020. Roberto is an extraordinary leader and has always shown great support for ALTA. I am sure that this flight that takes off today will be full of positive initiatives for the association, the industry, and our region, especially in the areas of environment, regulation, technology, among others».
Botelho also expressed his appreciation to Pedro Heilbron for his leadership during his term as ALTA’s Executive Committee Chairman during the deepest crisis in the history of aviation. «At all times the association had support, guidance, and leadership,» he concluded.
