Lufthansa resumes Munich – Mexico City route

Lufthansa is strengthening operations at its five-star hub in Munich: the airline is preparing to meet the demand for holiday destinations for the northern winter season. The Bavarian capital will be served by 140 destinations during the winter vacations, and with increasing passenger demand, the airline is recommending that customers should register in advance before starting their journey.

Return to Latin America from Bavaria

As of October 31, 2021, Lufthansa returns its operations to Mexico City, the route has been out of service since March 2020 when the pandemic began, and the itinerary is as follows:

  • Munich – Mexico City LH520 MUC 15:15 – MEX 21:15 three weekly flights on Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday.
  • Mexico City – Munich LH521 MEX 22:55 – MUC 17:10+1 three weekly flights on Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday.

According to data obtained by Aviacionline through the Mexican Ministry of Communications and Transport (SCT), the Bavarian and Mexican capital moved 119,452 passengers in 2019, one of the main intercontinental routes of the AICM, 3850 tons of cargo and nearly 500 flights were offered.

Mexico City is the carrier’s only destination to Latin America from Munich; service to São Paulo which was restarted at the end of 2019 is still discontinued.

Canadian winter

The seasonal summer service between Munich – Vancouver will be extended for the entire northern winter season, and as of October 31, 2021, service to Montreal will resume with three flights per week.

More sun destinations

From October 31, 2021, Lufthansa resumes operations between Munich – Cape Town with five weekly flights, from the Sunshine State from November 8, 2021, resumes service to Miami with daily flights, and in early October on the occasion of EXPO 2020 resumes the route to Dubai.

All long-haul destinations during the winter season will be served by the Airbus A350-900, Lufthansa’s most modern and sustainable aircraft, which uses 25% less CO2 than its predecessor models.

From October 31, 2021, Lufthansa will fly to Marsa Alam from Munich, the second-holiday destination in Egypt next to Hurghada. The German airline will also have snow destinations from the Bavarian capital to Tromso, Norway, and Kittila, Finland, every Saturday from December 18, 2021.
