Avianca to add five leased aircraft to its fleet

Avianca signed an aircraft lease agreement with CDB Aviation for a fleet of five Airbus A320neo aircraft, which are scheduled for delivery to the company in 2022 and 2023.

These aircraft, each of which will come with the company’s Premium, Plus, and Economy cabin configuration, are to be leased on a long-term basis and will support Avianca’s expansion plans for the next few years when it expects to operate more than 200 routes on 120 aircraft.

«We are pleased to strengthen our partnership with the oldest airline in the Americas through a deal that will help boost the airline’s new strategy, with environmentally sustainable aircraft,» commented Luís da Silva, CDB’s Commercial Director of Aviation for the Americas. «These new technology aircraft, which have reduced fuel consumption and superior operating characteristics, will drive Avianca’s commitment to the environment and position the airline into a very bright future in the midst of the emerging recovery.»

Francisco Raddatz, Avianca’s Vice President of Fleet, said, «We value CDB Aviation’s support and confidence in our new business model and are glad to continue incorporating new technology aircraft that will support the growth of our network while also reducing our environmental footprint.»

Lastly, Peter Goodman, CDB Aviation’s Marketing Director, added «With the progressive easing of travel restrictions and the acceleration of vaccination programs in the Americas, carriers in the region are increasingly preparing for a recovery with more versatile fleets that can provide network flexibility, maximize capacity and, improve efficiency and sustainability.»

Recently, Adrian Neuhauser, CEO of the company, explained the roadmap of the «New Avianca» in which it will bring together the attributes of Low-Cost airlines and integrate them into its business model in order to operate under a hybrid scheme that aims to meet the post-pandemic traveler’s needs.
