The Prince George’s Airport (YXS) authorities reported that they have received a business license application from the company Copilot to open a store later this year. If completed, it would be the first cannabis retail shop at an airport in the world.

Copilot is a project that aims to make traveling a less stressful experience for those who suffer from anxiety or fear when boarding a plane. The company has been working for some time with provincial and federal regulators to meet all the requirements to achieve certification.

Gordon Duke, CEO of the airport, stated, «We are very pleased to welcome Copilot if they receive a commercial license and provincial approval. City Council is expected to give the first reading to their business license application on January 10. Copilot has met the regulatory requirements of both Transport Canada and the Province of British Columbia prior to their meeting with Council.»

«Obtaining a business license is one of the last steps before they can open their doors in YXS. Their products and services are in accordance with all federal and provincial laws and the store will operate just like other cannabis retail stores in Prince George. Copilot approached us in 2020 with an application to apply for lease space at our airport. They had a strong business plan that met our expectations for new business partners, and we welcome the opportunity to work with Copilot to expand the services available to our passengers,» he added.

Copilot co-founders Reed Horton and Owen Ritz said they see Prince George’s Airport, located in northern Canada in the province of British Columbia, as «the perfect place to launch our initial storefront and fulfill our mission to make travel a less stressful and more pleasant experience for our customers. (…) YXS is large enough to showcase our innovative retail concept but small enough to build a close relationship with our customers and the community. We are working with all relevant regulatory bodies to ensure we fulfill all the requirements of the licensing process and look forward to becoming part of the community in the coming year.»
