Just two weeks after obtaining its Peruvian air operator certificate, JetSMART announced today the launch of its domestic flights in Peru, which is part of its expansion plan in South America, in addition to the operations it already has in Chile (since 2017) and Argentina (2019).
As can be seen in the ultra-low-cost carrier’s reservation system, JetSMART Peru’s inaugural flight will be on June 14 and will depart from Lima’s Jorge Chávez Airport at 8:10 am to arrive in Arequipa at 9:32 am. That same day it will also inaugurate the link between the Peruvian capital and Trujillo at 13:51, and with Cusco at 16:23.
In keeping with its commitment to interregional connections (which it has also made in Argentina and Chile), JetSMART Peru will inaugurate its flights between Cusco and Arequipa the following day, on June 16 between Trujillo and Arequipa, and on June 24 between Piura and Arequipa.
Between July and August, the company will add Tarapoto, Talara, Juliaca, Iquitos and Cajamarca to its network.

“Flying SMART is now possible within Peru. Everyone will be able to fly in a new, safe and on-time aircraft, saving many hours of ground travel and at ultra-low prices. SMART routes will contribute to increase the productivity and decentralization of the country, saving time and money for all our passengers. This is a great step towards bringing the dream of flying closer to everyone, increasing the country’s connectivity, without the need to go through the capital,” commented Estuardo Ortiz, CEO of JetSMART.
“We will offer point-to-point flights, shorter flights to destinations that today are not connected to each other, allowing great transfer opportunities for passengers who from now on will pay only for what they need and use for their trip,” he added.
As the executive told Aviacionline in an interview during the Wings of Change conference held in Santiago de Chile earlier this month, JetSMART Peru‘s domestic flights will start with a fleet of three Airbus A320neo.
When asked about Peru’s potential considering the presence of two other low-cost carriers (Sky and Viva), in addition to LATAM, the leading Latin American airline group, Estuardo Ortiz had said that “just as when we started in Chile or Argentina, the focus is still on stimulating the market. Imagine that in South America there are 268 million passengers, so if we were to reach one trip per capita we would grow by 60%, the potential is there, and in Peru as well”.
