The head of Mexico’s Federal Consumer Protection Agency (Profeco) stated that Aeromexico is the main culprit for delays at Mexico City’s International Airport (AICM).

During a conference held by the Mexican president, Ricardo Sheffield, head of Profeco, pointed out that most of the complaints received by the agency under his charge are against Aeromexico and its operation at the AICM. In addition, as reported by Yahoo!, he mentioned that the group operates with insufficient personnel.

«Aeromexico loves to blame the airport and the federal government for delays, but the reality is that it is very common for an incomplete crew to arrive at the aircraft. When a crew member is missing, you have to wait for someone to replace them, and this has caused a lot of delays,» Sheffield noted. Despite the high number of complaints, the official indicated that «90% of them are resolved quickly».

Aeromexico talks back: «we are the most punctual company at the AICM».

After Sheffield’s statements, the company fired back and said that they are the most punctual airline at the airport. According to Aeromexico, 99.9% of its flights were carried out without inconvenience and mentioned that between January and July of this year it only received one complaint for every 20,000 customers served.

In addition, the airline stated that between July and August they operated almost 29,000 flights to and from the AICM, with a departure punctuality of 81.3% and arrival punctuality of 78.8%, which places it at the top of the chart in that facility.

«These results are 4 percentage points above the overall average for that air terminal and 13 percentage points above the other two main operators at that station,» the group said in a statement replicated by Forbes.

The airline closed by noting that it continues to work to ensure that its operations are conducted under the highest health and safety standards. It also mentioned that it maintains close coordination with government authorities.
