Trouble for Boeing and Airbus: COMAC C919 gets certification in China

On the morning of September 29, the CAAC finally granted the type certificate to the COMAC C919, enabling its serial production and the start of its commercial operation.

The Chinese aviation authority allows C919 to enter the huge Chinese industrial market in the coveted 150-190-seat segment, largely dominated by Western manufacturers Boeing and Airbus.

In fact, the U.S. manufacturer awaits the recertification of its Boeing 737 MAX, suspended from commercial operation since March 2019, following the accidents that put the model at the center of controversy.

Numerous sources suggested that one of the hurdles facing MAX recertification was the delivery of the C919 type certificate, so it remains to wait to see if the CAAC will finally move forward with approval of the return.

This is a developing story.
