London – Gatwick to have 51 weekly flights to the United States for the 2022/2023 winter season

London – Gatwick (LGW) for the 2022/2023 boreal winter season will have 51 weekly flights to the United States with an offer of 26,252 seats per week. The UK’s second major airport will be connected to popular destinations such as Boston, New York, Orlando, among others.

«We are delighted to be rebuilding our popular connections to North America post-pandemic. It’s exciting to be able to offer passengers more choice once again when traveling between Gatwick and the U.S.,» said Stephanie Wear, vice president of aviation development at Gatwick Airport.

More flights to the Big Apple

JetBlue is strengthening its operation at Gatwick (LGW) by adding a second daily flight to its route to New York (JFK), all of which will be operated on 138-seat, two-class Airbus A321LRs. In addition, the company offers daily flights to Boston (BOS) on Airbus A321neo configured with 160 seats.

In addition, British Airways and Norse Atlantic will continue to offer daily flights between the Big Apple and Gatwick (LGW). Prior to the pandemic, 699,766 passengers flew between New York and LGW, the second busiest route at the London airport, according to data obtained by Aviacionline from the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).

Recovery of the market to Florida

Florida is the top U.S. market at London – Gatwick (LGW) in terms of seats per seat kilometers offered (ASK), currently British Airways is the only airline to offer non-stop services between LGW and the Sunshine State.

The British airline will have 11 flights a week from Orlando (MCO) and five flights a week from Tampa (TPA) all operated on Boeing 777s.

«We are delighted to see travel between the UK and US pick up after covid. The U.S. has always been very popular with U.K. tourists and families. There is plenty to see and do for every type of tourist,» said Sky Crockford, Visit USA.

According to data compiled by the CAA, 3,260,292 passengers flew between Gatwick (LGW) and the U.S. via more than 10 destinations. For the 2023 summer boreal season, Delta and a new British Airways service to Las Vegas (LAS) are expected to arrive.
