Cainiao Network, the logistics arm of Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba, today announced the expansion of its partnership with cargo carrier Atlas Air, with the aim of launching a new cargo route connecting China and Colombia.

According to the company, the new service will be operated by a Boeing 747-8F, capable of carrying up to 133 tonnes of cargo. The aircraft will depart from Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) and make a stop at Miami International Airport (MIA), before continuing on to Bogota’s El Dorado International Airport (BOG), its final destination.

The route will soon include an additional stop in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Total duration of the operation will be around 37 hours. Cainiao will thus strengthen its cargo services in Latin America, where it currently offers eight weekly flights. According to the company, the expansion of its activity in the region will improve the delivery time of goods by 76%.

In this regard, Cainiao remarked that the launch of the new routes will complement the implementation of the «Must-Go» logistics service, which uses proprietary technologies to optimise the value chain of international cargo sorting, processing and shipping.

In October 2020, Cainiao had announced that it would operate three weekly flights between Hong Kong, Brazil and Chile in response to growing demand between these markets. Subsequently, the partnership was expanded to offer daily flights to Santiago, Chile. In February this year, the airline added a new Boeing 747-8F to support the growth of its Latin American network.
