Mexican low-cost carrier Viva Aerobus presented its preliminary traffic results for December 2022. The company closed the year with a growth of its capacity, a rise in the occupancy rate and an increase of the number of passengers carried compared to 2021.
«We saw strong demand in December, as well as healthy passenger traffic levels in all of our markets», commented Juan Carlos Zuazua, the company’s CEO. «All of the people at Viva Aerobus did an incredible job to carry more than two million passengers this month, despite operational challenges due to weather conditions», he added.
December 2022 results
During the last month of the year, Viva Aerobus carried 2.02 million passengers. The figure represents an increase of 21.7% compared to December 2021. As highlighted by the company in a press release, the result is explained by an increase in air traffic. The growth reached 24.6% in the domestic market and 2.6% in international operations.
On the other hand, it reported a slight increase in the occupancy rate, which reached 84.4% in December. The company ended the month with an occupancy rate of 86.6% on domestic flights and 74.4% on international services. In the last month of the previous year, it had recorded an occupancyrate of 84.3%.
Viva Aerobus also increased its total capacity, measured in available seat mile (ASM), by 20.4% compared to December 2021. The increase reached 23.2% in the domestic market and 9.3% in the international market.
Annual cumulative
Between January and December 2022, Viva Aerobus carried a total of 20.7 million passengers, 35.6% more than during 2021 and 72.2% more than in 2019, the last year prior to the start of the pandemic.
The occupancy rate reached 85.8% in the annual cumulative, 2.2 percentage points above that reported in 2021 and 2.9 percentage points below that recorded in 2019.
