On June 4, Denver International Airport (DEN) celebrated the fifth anniversary of Edelweiss‘ non-stop northern summer season flights to Zurich Airport (ZRH), Switzerland.
Edelweiss long-haul network will reach 20 destinations in 15 countries
«We are proud to celebrate this important service anniversary with Edelweiss and thank them for their long-term investment in the Denver market. As the first and only airline to operate nonstop flights between Denver and Zurich, Edelweiss provides a direct connection from the Alps to the Rocky Mountains that continues to stimulate tourism demand and new job creation«, said Denver Mayor Michael B. Hancock, mayor of Denver.
Edelweiss operates the Zurich – Denver route on Airbus A340-300 aircraft with 314 seats in three classes (27 Business Class/76 Economy Plus/211 Economy) and the service provides connections to Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
On May 8, 2023, summer service to Zurich was reactivated with two flights per week and for the high season increases to three flights per week. The leisure airline suspended this route in 2020 and 2021 in the wake of the COVID-19 crisis.
«Demand for transatlantic travel is expected to reach record highs this summer. With the increase in Denver-Zurich frequency to three weekly flights in peak months, Edelweiss service directly supports our Vision 100 strategic goal of expanding DEN’s global connectivity«, said DEN CEO Phil Washington.
Since inaugurating service between Denver and Zurich five years ago, Edelweiss has operated nearly 200 flights with more than 400 passengers. In 2019, Zurich ranked among Denver’s top 10 largest European markets, with more than 25,000 annual passengers traveling between the two cities.
Demand for travel between Denver and Zurich peaks during the peak summer season, with nearly 60% of trips between May and September. Edelweiss’ sister airline Lufthansa also operates out of Denver and offers flights from Frankfurt and Munich.
