ITA Airways Inaugurates Non-Stop Flights Between Rome and San Francisco

ITA Airways continues to expand its transatlantic network with the start of its non-stop flights between Rome – Fiumicino and San Francisco on July 1, 2023. This new service is the company’s second destination on the West Coast and sixth in the United States.

The inaugural ceremony of this new service was attended by Mario Baccini, Mayor of Fiumicino; Raffaello Biselli, Councilman of Fiumicino; Pierluigi Di Palma, National Agency for Civil Aviation (ENAC); Ivan Bassato, General Director of Aviation of Aeroporti di Roma; Isabella Cascarano, Senior Commercial Officer of the Embassy of the United States of America in Italy and Emiliana Limosani, Commercial Director of ITA Airways and CEO of Volare.

Flight AZ 640 was operated on an Airbus A350 registered as EI-IFF and christened «Enzo Bearzot». The aircraft departed Leonardo da Vinci International Airport (FCO) at 10:10 local time and arrived at San Francisco International Airport (SFO) at 12:47, after eleven hours and 37 minutes.

Enac President Pierluigi Di Palma commented: «The development of the ITA Airways network is also an important institutional signal for the whole country, it means culture, tourism, with employment effects of great interest. Italian air transport needs connections that strengthen, as in this case, also the ties with friendly countries. This is the only way I know of to support companies in internationalization«.

ITA Airways flight schedule to San Francisco

  • Rome – San Francisco Flight AZ 640 FCO 09:35 – SFO 13:15 Tuesday, Saturday and Sunday.
  • San Francisco – Rome Flight AZ 641 SFO 15:15 – FCO 12:05+1 Tuesday, Saturday and Sunday.
Route details
  • As of August 2, service increases from 3 to 5 flights per week operating on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
  • The service will have a seasonal suspension between January 10 and March 3, 2024.

The route is operated by Airbus A350-900 aircraft with a capacity of 334 seats in two classes (33 Business Class/301 Economy) and promotional fares are available from 1,143 euros round trip.

The ITA Airways network in the United States has non-stop services to New York JFK, Boston, Miami, Los Angeles, Washington – Dulles and San Francisco. In total, for the peak season the airline will have an offer of 33,724 seats per week between the US and Italy, consolidating its position as the third largest airline operator in this market in terms of seat per kilometer offered (ASK) according to Cirium.
