On July 4, Lufthansa began flying with the Airbus A380 between Munich and New York JFK, the carrier’s second service performed by the superjumbo after Boston which started in early June. The carrier’s last scheduled operation with the A380 to the Big Apple was on October 26, 2019 with a connection from Frankfurt.
Flight LH 410 was operated by the A380 registered as D-AIMK and delivered to the company at the end of March 2014. The aircraft took off from Munich International Airport (MUC) at 12:33 local time and landed at John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) at 14:45, after eight hours and 12 minutes.
Lufthansa will offer 7,126 seats per week between the Bavarian capital and New York JFK. In addition, for the 2023/2024 winter season, the German airline is scheduled to fly A380s from Munich to Los Angeles and Bangkok.

The German airline’s Airbus A380 has a capacity of 509 seats in four classes (8 First Class/78 Business Class/52 Premium Economy/371 Economy). This aircraft offers 80% more seats compared to the Airbus A340-600 previously operated on this route.
According to information compiled by Aviacionline through Eurostat, 133,724 passengers were mobilized between New York JFK and Munich in 2022, this represents a recovery of more than 75% in passenger traffic compared to 2019 levels.
Lufthansa is the third airline to resume superjumbo flights to John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), complementing Korean Air’s services to Seoul – Incheon and Emirates to Dubai and Milan – Malpensa.
The airline currently has two active A380s (D-AIMK, D-AIMH) that were idled for three years and parked at Teruel Airport in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic crises. Lufthansa plans to reactivate another four aircraft to reinforce its operations for the 2024 summer season.
