Iberia boosts its short- and medium-haul operations for winter

Iberia Group will boost its operations in Europe for the winter season, increasing its services by 5% when compared to the pandemic, and reaching more than 800 flights a week. The company has programmed a growth of almost 6% in its operations on its Spanish routes compared to last year’s winter season, with more than 680 weekly flights and reaching the pre-pandemic recovery.

Increased capacity in Europe and a new destination

Iberia for the winter will have a new seasonal service in Finland, the airline will fly twice a week to Rovaniemi, the capital of Lapland and has a schedule from December 2 until February 10. This destination will be the main new addition to the company’s European network.

In the main markets, Paris will have 60 weekly flights at Orly airport, which means a historic capacity, with more than 57% more seats than in 2019. In addition, Rome will reach its largest schedule ever, with 39 flights a week, an increase of 35% respectively. Milan will have 21 weekly flights with Linate airport and 18 with Malpensa airport, 33% more than pre-pandemic levels.

Other cities in Europe will see increases in their operations compared to the pre-pandemic winter. For example, Venice will see an increase of four more flights a week with Madrid, bringing the total to 22. In Switzerland, the airline will increase its services to Zurich with two additional flights to 23 a week.

The routes with Athens, Prague, Düsseldorf will have an increase of three flights a week compared to winter 2019. Finally, Oslo, Stockholm, Budapest and Hamburg will have an increase of two flights a week in their connectivity with Madrid, Spain.

More capacity to Morocco

In North Africa, Iberia will increase its capacity to Morocco. Service to Marrakech will be increased by four additional flights to a schedule of 14 weekly flights operated on Airbus A320s and Airbus A319s.

In addition, the airline will increase its services to Casablanca to 11 times a week using CRJ-1000 and to Tangier, the route to Madrid will have daily flights and to Malaga up to four weekly flights. In total, Iberia will provide a capacity of 8,830 seats per week between Spain and Morocco in the winter.

Improved connectivity within Spain

Iberia Group will boost the domestic market by increasing its services between Almeria and Madrid to up to seven weekly flights over the previous winter season. Likewise, the route to Granada will increase to five flights a week.

From Pamplona, the airline will fly four times a week, for Jerez de la Frontera an increase of three weekly flights has been programmed and, in the service to La Coruña, the increase will be of two weekly flights, always with respect to the last winter season.
