Wizz Air has announced the addition of four new Airbus A321neo aircraft to its bases in Italy: between March and July 2024, three additional aircraft will be based at Rome-Fiumicino and one aircraft will be added at Milan-Malpensa. With this expansion, the low-cost airline is scheduled to add six new and increase services on 17 existing routes by next summer.
The new aircraft reflect an additional €400 million investment by Wizz Air in Italy. By summer 2024, the low-cost carrier will have 14 aircraft based at Rome-Fiumicino and eight at Milan-Malpensa. With an extensive network in Italy, serving nearly 230 routes in more than 40 countries.
For the 2024 summer season, Wizz Air will add six new routes from Italy: from Rome-Fiumicino to Germany, Spain and Denmark, as well as from Milan-Malpensa to France and Spain.
In addition, the low-cost airline will increase its services from Rome to four Spanish cities, the United Kingdom, the Czech Republic, Armenia, the Netherlands, Jordan, Egypt, Portugal, Romania, Poland and Azerbaijan. From Milan, flights to Saudi Arabia and Egypt will be increased.
«The additional aircraft will not only provide passengers with more flight options to numerous sought-after destinations, but will also stimulate the economy, as we are creating thousands of direct and indirect jobs with Wizz Air and in the hospitality sector,» said József Váradi, CEO of Wizz Air Group.
New routes for summer 2024
From Rome-Fiumicino:
- Berlin: starts March 31, 2024 with daily flights.
- Copenhagen: starts July 2, 2024 with five flights a week, increases to daily flights in September 2024.
- Hamburg: starts March 31, 2024 with four flights a week.
- Alicante: starts April 1, 2024 with three flights a week.
From Milan-Malpensa:
- Paris-Beauvais: daily flights starting March 31, 2024.
- Tenerife: three weekly flights starting July 2, 2024.
Increases to existing services
From Rome-Fiumicino:
- Madrid: increase from 14 to 17 weekly flights.
- Barcelona: increase from 14 to 17 weekly flights.
- London-Gatwick: increase from 12 to 18 weekly flights.
- Prague: increase from 9 to 11 weekly flights.
- Yerevan: increase from 7 to 10 weekly flights.
- Malaga: increase from 5 to 7 weekly flights.
- Valencia: increase from 5 to 7 weekly flights.
- Eindhoven: increase from 5 to 7 weekly flights.
- Amman: increase from 4 to 5 weekly flights.
- Sharm-el-Sheikh: increase from 4 to 7 weekly flights.
- Porto: increase from 3 to 4 weekly flights.
- Suceava: increase from 3 to 7 weekly flights.
- Rzeszów: increase from 2 to 3 weekly flights.
- Baku: increase from 2 to 3 weekly flights.
From Milan-Malpensa:
- Sharm-el-Sheikh: increases from 3 to 5 weekly flights.
- Sphinx (Cairo): increase from 3 to 4 weekly flights.
- Riyadh: increase from 2 to 3 weekly flights.
