Four More A380s to Be Dismantled and Recycled by VAS and Dr. Peters Group

VAS Aero Services, a leader in aviation logistics and aftermarket services, has entered into an agreement with Dr. Peters Group, a Germany-based investment fund management firm with a focus on aviation, real estate, and shipping. This collaboration involves the placement of four Airbus A380 aircraft with VAS for the purpose of reclamation and redistribution of used serviceable material (USM), particularly from these high-demand aircraft.

This initiative is part of an ongoing relationship between the two companies, which began with the dismantlement of the first A380 aircraft ever designated for teardown. Since 2020, three additional A380s have been consigned for this purpose. The latest agreement increases the total number of A380 aircraft consigned to VAS by Dr. Peters Group to eight.

Christian Mailly, Managing Director – Head of Aviation at Dr. Peters Group, explained the rationale behind the decision to partner with VAS Aero Services for the project. «Our history of turning to VAS Aero Services to manage the teardown of sophisticated aircraft such as the A380 made this an easy decision for us,» Mailly said. He emphasized the value brought by VAS’s expertise in dismantlement and its global aftermarket sales network for organizations looking to decommission aircraft.

Mailly also highlighted the growing demand for A380 USM parts and the strategic timing for retiring these aircraft to capitalize on their residual value. «With the resurgence in the reliance on the A380 increasing the need for quality USM parts, the timing is right for retiring end-of-life A380 aircraft and monetizing the residual value of their serviceable parts,» he noted, adding that VAS’s expertise would aid in realizing additional value for investors.

The teardown of three of the aircraft will be managed by VAS in partnership with Tarmac Aerosave in Tarbes, France, positioning the harvested parts for easy access in the EMEA market. The dismantlement of the fourth aircraft will be conducted at the facilities of Asia Pacific Aircraft Storage Ltd. in Alice Springs, Australia, aiming to serve VAS customers in the Australia-Oceania-SE Asia region with quality parts.

Tommy Hughes, CEO of VAS, commented on the partnership’s significance, appreciating the trust Dr. Peters Group has placed in VAS’s capabilities. «Their confidence in our ability to maximize the value of their end-of-service aircraft assets is truly appreciated,» Hughes stated. He described VAS’s role in transforming aircraft retirement into revenue opportunities and underscored the company’s contribution to a sustainable aviation industry by redistributing used parts.
