Hawaiian Airlines performed the first commercial service of its Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner christened «Kapuahi» with a flight to San Francisco. The aircraft is expected to be introduced on the Honolulu-Los Angeles route beginning May 14 and Honolulu-Phoenix beginning May 15.
Flight HA012 was operated by a Dreamliner registered as N781HA. The aircraft took off on April 15 from Daniel K. Inouye International Airport in Honolulu at 13:44 local time and landed at San Francisco International Airport at 21:07, after four hours and 24 minutes.

Passengers on HA12 of the inaugural 787 were the first to see the company’s new safety video, which will soon be available on the Airbus A330-200 fleet. The cabin design is inspired by the Hawaiian islands and a sunrise and sunset lighting. The 34 Leihōkū Suites in a 1-2-1 layout with reclining seats, an 18-inch in-flight entertainment screen, personal power outlets, wireless cell phone charging and direct aisle access.
Economy class consists of 266 seats designed by Collins Aerospace Aspire with ergonomic seatbacks and armrests that optimize space. a 12-inch entertainment screen and USB charging ports.
The airline has 12 787-9 Dreamliners on order and has already taken delivery of the second aircraft, the N780HA. Hawaiian is estimated to take delivery of three 787-9s by the end of this year with the remaining deliveries occurring through 2027.
