The world’s largest passenger plane won’t arrive in Brazil for the second consecutive day. The Emirates flight connecting Dubai to São Paulo, operated with the Airbus A380, had its schedule altered due to the closure of Dubai International Airport.

The world’s busiest international airport had to halt its operations on April 17 due to a severe storm that hit Dubai and its surroundings.

Flight EK261 bound for Guarulhos (GRU) on that day was canceled, and today’s, April 18, has yet to depart from Dubai (DBX).

The fierce storm that battered Dubai Airport caused flooding within the airport premises, rendering the movement of aircraft on the ground impossible. The rainfall on Tuesday exceeded the annual average for the Emirate city.

Thousands of passengers at DBX and airports in the region were affected by the cancellation of more than a hundred flights.

According to our affiliated site Aeroin, the aircraft appears to be on the verge of taking off at the time of publication of this article, meaning it won’t land until Friday, the 19th, marking Thursday as the second day without the A380 in Brazil.

On the other hand, if the flight on Friday, April 19, takes off without any issues, there could be a double A380 operation at Guarulhos International Airport on the same day.

The Airbus A380 is the world’s largest passenger aircraft, with capacity to carry between 500 and 850 passengers, depending on the airline’s configuration.

Emirates is the largest operator of this model in the world, with over 90 operational aircraft. Nearly 50% of the airline’s fleet was returned to service after being grounded for over a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak.

Guarulhos International Airport is the only airport terminal in Latin America to receive the giant of the skies.
