Ryanair announced the opening of a new base in Trieste, Italy. The low-cost carrier will fly to 18 destinations from the Italian city, in which James Joyce, a famous Irish writer, lived for more than 15 years.

At Trieste Airport (TRS), Ryanair will base a Boeing 737 8200 “Gamechanger,” the high-density version of the 737-8 MAX. The new base is expected to generate up to 600 new jobs for pilots, cabin crew, and ground staff.

The airline will invest $100 million in creating the nineteenth base in Italy. Ryanair is making this investment in response to the initiative of the FVG region to abolish the municipal/tourist tax.

Ryanair will fly to 18 destinations from Trieste this summer, including seven new routes to Berlin, Brindisi, Budapest, Krakow, Olbia, Paris, and Seville.

To celebrate the opening of the new Trieste base, Ryanair has launched a promotion with fares starting from €21.99, available only on the airline’s official website.

Ryanair CEO Eddie Wilson said: “As Europe’s and Italy’s number 1 airline, Ryanair is delighted to announce the official opening of our new base in Trieste.”

“The increased capacity of Ryanair and the 7 new routes (18 in total) to Berlin, Brindisi, Budapest, Krakow, Olbia, Paris, and Seville from Trieste this summer will boost the region’s economic growth with the creation of 600 local jobs,” Wilson added.

Marco Consalvo, CEO of Trieste Airport, noted that “the summer flight season, which began on March 31, 2024, is off to a very good start and is already showing a positive trend regarding the new destinations inaugurated thanks to the opening of Ryanair’s base.”

“Thanks to this operation with Ryanair, we offer new travel opportunities to residents and reinforce inbound tourism with connections to new strategic tourist markets for Friuli-Venezia Giulia such as Germany, Poland, France, and Spain,” Consalvo added.
