Yesterday, Wednesday (18), at 7:26 p.m. local time, the inaugural flight of SKY Airline landed in El Calafate. This new service from Santiago (SCL), Chile, aims to meet demand during the southern summer of 2024/25, with flights scheduled until March 16, 2025.
SKY will offer two weekly flights to the Patagonian city, marking the first time the Chilean airline operates regular flights to this destination. This new connection will also provide links to Brazil.
“With the opening of this new route, we expect to offer more than 6,100 passengers the opportunity to access this fascinating Patagonian destination quickly and directly, with a nonstop flight lasting only three hours and very affordable fares. At SKY, we aim to foster connectivity and tourism by offering low prices and guaranteeing the highest safety standards, as the best low-cost airline in the region,” said Franco Chaparro, SKY’s Sales Manager.
The flights are operated with Airbus A320neo aircraft, with a capacity of 186 seats, providing a weekly offer of 744 seats.

With this new addition, El Calafate’s Comandante Armando Tola International Airport will once again have direct international flights after six years. Between 2017 and 2018, Aerovías DAP operated flights between Punta Arenas (PUQ) and El Calafate, with a stopover in Puerto Natales (PNT), to capitalize on the high tourist demand in the Patagonian region.
«This is a historic day for El Calafate. The direct connection with Santiago de Chile will allow us to continue strengthening our destination and opening the Pacific route to new points,» said Julieta Saita, El Calafate’s Secretary of Tourism. «We are confident that this new route will be a success and will contribute to the economic growth of our region,» she added.
