Tonight will depart from Buenos Aires’ Ezeiza International Airport, Aerolíneas Argentinas’ 38th special flight to China to import medical supply bought by the Argentinian government.
Bound to Guangzhou, the A330-200 will make a stop at Barajas Airport in Madrid, where it will unload almost 5 tons of blueberries, 2.5 tonnes of cherries, and 832 kilos in wine bottles. These commercial orders are expected to generate continuity of one of the airline’s business units that the new management wants to promote the most: cargo.
“Paradoxically, the global financial crisis resulting from the pandemic creates a unique opportunity for the development of the cargo business. Expanding this unit is a strategic objective of the management. The high profitability of the cargo business will allow us to generate a good part of the income that the country and Aerolineas Argentinas need so much”, said Pablo Ceriani, CEO.
Since mid-March, when the special and repatriation operations began, more than 1,950 tonnes of Argentine cargo were transported by Aerolineas Argentinas for export to destinations such as Miami, Madrid, New York, Rome, Bogotá, Santiago de Chile, and São Paulo, among others.
In total, since the first special flight to China left in mid-April, the company has made 38 flights and 940 tons of masks, gloves, biosafety gear, components for rapid reagent manufacturing and other materials have been brought into the country.
Aerolineas Argentinas announced last week another six flights that will complete the Buenos Aires – Madrid – Guangzhou – Auckland – Buenos Aires route in 72 hours.
