Blue Macaw: Azul Reveals a Stunning Livery on one of its Embraer E195-E2

Azul Linhas Aéreas Brasileiras painted a striking tropical livery on one of its Embraer 195-E2 (PS-AEF).

It was designed by São Paulo-resident graffiti artist Luiz Pardal, featuring 3 ararinhas (blue macaws) on each side of the E2’s 41.5 meters fuselage. The aircraft was christened “Ararinha Azul”; a bird native to Brazil that was considered extinct for 20 years that was recently recovered in captivity.

The work was completed in 10 days at Embraer’s facilities in São José dos Campos. Although it appears to be hand-painted, the process involved masking the aircraft and then applying 150 kilos of paint using automated robots. The livery has 58 non-corrosive paint colors, of which 28 are specially blended to capture the vibrant look of Brazil’s tropical landscape.

Despite the complexity of the colors, the total weight of the paint used for this design is approximately the same as that of the more conventional liveries. AzkoNobel and Tintas Coral, a Brazilian painting company were in charge of the project.

Azul is known for presenting mind-blowing liveries, of which the following stand out:
