In an unprecedented logistical effort, the LATAM group reported that it reached the 50 million mark of vaccines against SARS-CoV-2 distributed for free within South America in the countries where they operate domestic flights, maintaining the highest biosafety standards.
The doses were distributed in Brazil, Chile, Ecuador and Peru (not Colombia at the moment, although they made available to the government), and are equivalent to 40% of the total doses administered in the region and 2% worldwide.
“We are honored to be able to contribute from our role to defeat COVID-19. We understand that our role is not only to connect this region with the world, but also to contribute to the well-being of the communities of South America. That is why we will continue to make our Avión Solidario program available to support the transport of vaccines, people, supplies or cargo in health matters, natural disasters or actions for the environment,” said Roberto Alvo, CEO of LATAM Airlines Group.
The distribution of vaccines is part of the «Avión Solidario» program, which has more than 10 years of history, having mobilized more than 1,800 health professionals and patients with urgent medical needs, as well as more than 570 tons of cargo, including supplies and vaccines.
This program will be further enhanced by becoming part of one of the four pillars of LATAM’s sustainability strategy presented last month.
