Mexico: Viva Aerobus adds two new routes from Merida

This week, Viva Aerobus inaugurated two new routes from Merida (MID), thus reinforcing the national connectivity of the state of Yucatan. The company is currently the leading airline operator at Manuel Crescencio Rejon International Airport (MID) in terms of seats per kilometers offered (ASK).

According to data compiled by Aviacionline through Cirium, the Mexican low-cost airline will offer 33,616 weekly seats at Mérida (MID) in January through 154 operations. The company offers non-stop service to Camagüey (CMW), Guadalajara (GDL), Havana (HAV), Mexico City (MEX), Monterrey (MTY), Tuxtla Gutierrez (TGZ), Toluca (TLC), Veracruz (VER), Villahermosa (VSA) and now new routes to León (BJX) and Querétaro (QRO).

Leon/Guanajuato (BJX)

Operations of flight VB 9191 began on December 22, this service was operated in an Airbus A320 registered with registration XA-VJA, which took off from Guanajuato International Airport (BJX) at 08:32 local time and landed in Merida (MID) at 10:11, after one hour and 40 minutes.

“This new Viva route will help us continue to put the name of Guanajuato on a high level. We are confident that we will increase our visitors, especially during this holiday season,” said Juan José Álvarez Brunel, Secretary of Tourism for the State of Guanajuato.

Viva Aerobus landed in Leon (BJX) 16 years ago with a non-stop operation from Monterrey (MTY). Currently, the low-cost airline offers non-stop service from this Guanajuato city to Ciudad Juarez, Cancun, Chicago, Houston, Monterrey, San Antonio, Tijuana and now Merida.

In the January – November 2022 period, Viva Aerobus has increased its passenger traffic in Leon (BJX) by 78% compared to 2021 levels, mobilizing almost 665,000 travelers.

Queretaro (QRO)

The services of flight VB 9264 began on December 19, this operation was carried out in an Airbus A320 registered with the license plate XA-VBZ, the aircraft took off from Querétaro International Airport (QRO) at 13:20 local time and landed at Manuel Crescencio Rejón International Airport (MID) at 15:20, after one hour and 50 minutes.

“We are confident that these flights will be allies to boost passenger traffic, thus reaching new goals and continuing to make Querétaro an emblematic and accessible place to visit,” said Jorge Gutiérrez de Velasco, Director of AIQ.

Viva Aerobus Queretaron

  • Querétaro – Mérida Flight VB 9295 QRO 16:10 – MID 18:15 Monday and Friday.

The low-cost airline began in 2017 its services in Querétaro (QRO) and since then has operated uninterruptedly. It currently offers routes from Cancun, Monterrey, and now Merida.

During the first eleven months of this year, Viva Aerobus increased its passenger traffic to/from Querétaro (QRO) by 69% compared to 2021 levels, mobilizing almost 257,000 travelers.
