In March the airline started three new services in Ecuador: Quito (UIO) – Medellín (MDE), Guayaquil (GYE) – Medellín (MDE) and Guayaquil (GYE) – Cartagena, and is scheduled to start flights between Quito (UIO) and New York (JFK) as of June 1.

Ecuadorians having access to more direct routes is a fundamental part of the business model change we are implementing to be an Avianca for all. In the first half of this year alone, we are opening 5 new routes to destinations that are very attractive for Ecuadorian passengers but that also allow us to expand connectivity without flights to attract tourists from the region to visit Ecuador“, said María Beatriz González, Avianca’s Commercial Manager for Ecuador.

According to data obtained by Aviacionline through the Federal Civil Aviation Agency (AFAC), 56,849 passengers with an occupancy factor of 66% and 15,748.6 tons of cargo were mobilized between Mexico and Ecuador in 2022. Avianca will be the third airline operator in this segment where it will compete with Aeroméxico and Viva Aerobus.

We are very excited that we will continue to receive more Mexican tourists who with their visits support the dynamization of the country’s economy and to whom we offer as always the best experiences“, said Niels Olsen, Ecuador’s Minister of Tourism.

In addition to the new service to Quito (UIO) and a scheduled service from San Salvador (SAL) starting June 1, Avianca has non-stop service from Cancun International Airport (CUN) to Bogota (BOG), Medellin (MDE) and San Jose, Costa Rica (SJO) with an offer of 12,416 weekly seats in 70 operations according to Cirium.
