Within the framework of the 46th edition of the Tianguis Turístico held in Acapulco, Volaris announced together with the Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico the implementation of 10 routes from the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (NLU/AIFA).
The new links will be as follows:
- Acapulco (ACA); starting August 15, with four weekly flights (Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays).
- Huatulco (HUX); starting August 16, with three weekly flights (Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays).
- Merida (MID); starting August 15, with one daily flight.
- Mexicali (MXL); starting August 15, with one daily flight.
- Guadalajara (GDL); starting September 15, with a daily flight.
- La Paz (LAP); starting September 15, with three weekly flights (Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays).
- Los Cabos (SJD); starting September 16, with four weekly flights (Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays).
- Oaxaca (OAX); starting September 16, with four weekly flights (Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays).
- Puerto Escondido (PXM); starting September 15, with three weekly flights (Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays).
- Puerto Vallarta (PVR); starting September 15, one daily flight.
The new routes join the respective daily flights to Tijuana (TIJ) and Cancun (CUN). All flights will be operated on Airbus A320neo aircraft with a capacity of 186 passengers, offering 20,832 seats per week.

Volaris to decompress its flights at the AICM
The new routes are announced days after industry representatives and Mexican aeronautical authorities held a meeting to define actions to mitigate the saturation of the Mexico City International Airport (AICM), which was in the news after the incident between two Volaris A320s that could have led to a tragedy.
Viva Aerobus and Aeromexico also announced an increase in their flight offerings from AIFA. In turn, Viva Aerobus and Volaris will return to Toluca International Airport (TLC), which will help decompress traffic at Mexico City International Airport (MEX/AICM).
Volaris announced that it will reduce 20% of its flights at the AICM to improve the operational safety of its 140 weekly flights at the Mexico City airport.
«The Valley of Mexico has a potential market of 30 million travelers, who will be able to travel to the nearest airport, reducing time, distance and costs,» said Enrique Beltranena, CEO of Volaris.
Beltranena, during the tourism event, explained that he negotiated operating costs at AIFA, reducing them by up to 40% compared to those of the AICM. He also announced that it is looking to connect with the United States once Mexico regains its Category 1 status from the Federal Aviation Administration of that country.
With this announcement, Volaris will be the airline with the largest number of destinations from Felipe Angeles.
However, Aeromexico will continue to be the company with the largest number of flights and seats with 105 weekly frequencies and 26,650 seats per week. In second position is Viva Aerobus with 35 weekly flights and an offer of 13,020 seats.
Finally, Conviasa is the fourth company in the AIFA with a connection to Caracas (CCS), Venezuela, in Airbus A340-300 aircraft with capacity for 253 passengers.
