Aeromexico resumes operations between Monterrey and Los Angeles

Aeromexico will resume nonstop Monterrey (MTY) – Los Angeles (LAX) service as of December 15. Along with its Joint Venture partner Delta, the carriers continue to restore the U.S.-Mexico cross-border market. The airline will provide nearly 6,000 seats per month on this route.

Aeromexico continues to increase air connectivity from General Mariano Escobedo International Airport (MTY), the company’s third most important hub, recently announcing an expansion in the domestic market with four destinations to Leon/El Bajio (BJX), Queretaro (QRO), Guadalajara (GDL) and San Luis Potosi (SLP), in addition to Delta restarting operations from Detroit (DTW).

Flight Itinerary

  • Monterrey – Los Angeles Flight AM 2704 MTY 10:15 – LAX 11:55 daily flights.
  • Los Angeles – Monterrey Flight AM 2705 LAX 13:10 – MTY 18:20 daily flights.

The route will be operated by Aeromexico Connect on Embraer 190 aircraft with a capacity of 99 seats in two classes (11 Clase Premier/88 Clase Economica) and promotional fares start at MXN 5,328. Tickets are now available from the company’s website. The last airline operation in service was on March 29, 2020, flights were suspended because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to data obtained by Aviacionline through the Federal Civil Aviation Agency (AFAC) 61,511 passengers were mobilized in 780 air operations in 2019 between Monterrey (MTY) and Los Angeles (LAX). Aeromexico will be the only legacy operator on this route, soon to compete with low-cost carrier, Viva Aerobus.

By December, Delta and Aeromexico will have 48 routes between the United States and Mexico, with a monthly offer of 800,000 seats. Both airlines currently offer service from Monterrey (MTY) to Atlanta (ATL), Mexico City (MEX), Felipe Angeles Airport (NLU), Madrid (MAD) and Detroit (DTW).

General Mariano Escobedo International Airport (MTY) continues to recover international passenger traffic. According to data compiled by Aviacionline through OMA Estadísticas, 847,305 international passengers were mobilized between January – August this year: a 90.17% recovery compared to the same period in 2019.
