Anguilla reopens to foreign tourism

Since this Tuesday, May 25, Anguilla will reopen its borders to foreign tourism after the restrictions that had been established on April 22 to contain an outbreak of COVID-19 on the island.

After having achieved that objective and while the vaccination plan with which they hope to cover at least 70% of the residents advances, the government decided to reduce the quarantine period to seven days for travelers who are fully vaccinated with the last dose received at least three weeks before arriving in Anguilla.

“We suffered a temporary setback when we had to close our borders on April 22,” said Parliamentary Secretary for Tourism Quincia Gumbs-Marie. “We acted quickly and implemented a series of proactive measures to control and contain this group of infections, along with a greater scope of vaccination. Now we can reopen safely, protecting the health of our residents and visitors,” she added.

“Anguilla continues to be a desired destination, it is reflected in our strong reservations for Memorial Day weekend (a US holiday to be celebrated on May 31),” said Tourism Director, Stacey Liburd.

In order to visit Anguilla, tourists must complete an online form at least seven days before the estimated date of arrival. Once approval is obtained, they must reserve tickets to the island and perform a PCR test by nasal swab within five days prior to arrival.

The government also maintains a program to attract digital nomads, entrepreneurs, students and families who wish to settle in Anguilla for up to a year and work remotely.

Several airlines offer connection to Anguilla through some of the main airports in the Caribbean such as San Juan (Puerto Rico), St. Maarten and Santo Domingo. The island can also be reached via ferries that connect it to the Dutch sector of St. Maarten in 20 minutes.
