Argentina establishes quarantine for passengers arriving from Africa

Through Administrative Decision 1163/2021 dated yesterday, Sunday, November 28, the Argentine government imposed new sanitary requirements for entry into the country for those passengers coming from Africa, in the context of the escalation of concern that other countries are also showing about the new Omicron variant of the Coronavirus.

The measure states that all those passengers coming from or having been in the African continent (or in affected areas) in the 14 days prior to entering Argentina, must complete quarantine in addition to the rest of the requirements: They must have complied with the vaccination schedule at least 14 days prior to their arrival, present a negative PCR test performed at origin within the previous 72 hours, perform an antigen test at the point of arrival in Argentina, and another PCR test on the tenth day after the PCR sample was taken at origin, which, if negative, permits the quarantine to be completed.

Despite the fact that Argentina at present has no regular passenger flights connecting it to Africa, in December Ethiopian Airlines was to resume its operations, which will be paused for the time being since the Administrative Decision establishes in its article 2° that the National Administration of Civil Aviation «will keep the suspension of the authorizations and permits that may have been granted, related to the air transport operations of passengers on direct flights originating from the African continent».
