Dominican Republic and the United Arab Emirates expand commercial aviation relations

With the aim of expanding air trade relations with the United Arab Emirates, the Government of the Dominican Republic, through the President of the Civil Aviation Board (JAC), Dr. José Marte Piantini, progressed in the Protocol of Amendment to the Agreement for Air Services between countries and beyond their respective territories.

«Strengthening bonds of cooperation with other civil aviation authorities in the field of aero commercial services is of the utmost importance for the Government headed by the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, which is why with the signing of this Protocol of Amendment to the Agreement between the Dominican Government and the Government of the United Arab Emirates, we strengthen new opportunities that contribute to the economic growth of the country, promoting the quality of air transport service to and from the Dominican Republic», the President of the JAC expressed.

The signing of this agreement will allow significant advances in the promotion of air traffic between the two nations and enhance the Dominican Republic as a potential tourist destination. Authorities attending the signature included the President of the JAC, the Dominican Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, Julio Castaños Zouain, and the Director-General of the General Authority of Civil Aviation, Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, among others, on behalf of the United Arab Emirates authorities.

Strengthening connectivity between both nations

During the most important aeronautical event of 2021, the Dubai Airshow, the JAC delegation maintained conservations with Mohammad Abdulla Al Bulooki, Chief Operating Officer of Etihad Airways, which has a codeshare with Air Europa for operations on the Madrid (MAD) – Santo Domingo (SDQ) route and vice versa on connecting flights to Abu Dhabi (AUH).

With the purpose of expanding the destinations that can be connected to the Dominican Republic to improve investment opportunities and increase tourist arrivals through air connections with other nations, they also met with Ahmad Al Khamis, Emirates’ Senior Manager of Aeropolitical and Industrial Affairs.
