ATR and Binter Canarias closed today Nov 14, at the Dubai Airshow a firm order for four ATR 72-600 aircraft, with an additional option for one more, which will result in the replacement of the last ATR 72-500s operated by Binter with the latest generation ATRs.
The airline will use the aircraft to secure the continuity of the essential air links that the ATR fleet has provided. Regional air connectivity has been proven to support economic growth in the communities it serves since one study shows that a 10% increase in regional flights leads to a 6% increase in local GDP.
Rodolfo Núñez, President of Binter Canarias, said: «Since its first delivery the ATR aircraft has had an immediate and long-lasting impact on our operations. The ATR 72-600 has become our flagship aircraft and with 23 of them in our fleet, as these deliveries are completed, it provides the very backbone of air connectivity throughout the Canary Islands».
«This agreement covering five aircraft represents a significant investment, but will ensure that the multiple benefits, such as supporting local businesses and facilitating transport for locals and tourists, will continue,» he concluded.
Stefano Bortoli, Commercial CEO of ATR, stated: «We have had a long partnership with Binter Canarias and since their first delivery of ATRs, we have seen them strengthen as an airline. This certainly makes their reassurance of faith in our product a true stamp of approval. It demonstrates that our ATR has been reliable and cost-effective and that passengers have enjoyed the onboard experience. We will continue to introduce innovations that provide real value to airlines to deliver the most sustainable and cost-effective solution towards connecting local communities.»
