The Miami International Airport (MIA) administration announced Monday that Concourse E for international arrivals and Concourse F of the central terminal have been reopened for the first time since the start of the pandemic, in response to the recovery in passenger traffic they have been experiencing.
International passengers from fourteen airlines arriving in Miami through Concourses E and F, with the exception of American Airlines, will now clear immigration in Concourse E and exit to the arrivals lobby located on the first floor near Gate 11.
Frontier Airlines has also been relocated from Concourse G to Concourse F, which while closed was subject to renovations that included the installation of new lighting, flooring, seating, paint, ceilings and new signage. The low-cost carrier will launch new flights to eight domestic and two international destinations this month, bringing its network from Miami to a total of 40 cities.
As highlighted from MIA airport, all international passengers are checked in through Simplified Arrival, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s passport control process that uses biometric facial data, allowing to automate the documents check and being able to admit up to 10 people per minute.
In August 2021, 3.38 million passengers have transited through Miami International Airport, a recovery of 88% compared to the same period in 2019. Considering the first eight months of this year, the recovery has reached 73%, with 22.83 million passengers mobilized.
In the international segment, the recovery between January and August 2021 reached 50% with 7.75 million passengers mobilized, while in the domestic segment it has reached 94% with 15.07 million passengers.
