Scandinavian Airlines SAS increases operations to the United States for the 2021/2022 winter season

As the United States opens its borders to vaccinated foreign visitors, demand for travel has been significantly increasing. Consequently, SAS is modifying its schedule for the northern winter season by scheduling up to 100 flights per week during the northern winter from Scandinavia to the United States.

According to data obtained by Aviacionline through Avinor and Eurostat in 2019 more than 2 million passengers moved from the United States to Scandinavia, being the main long-haul market in the region, where the carrier owns the largest market share through its hubs in Copenhagen (CPH), Stockholm (ARN) and Oslo (OSL).

“It is very rewarding that we can increase the number of flights and offer our customers the opportunity to finally be able to travel again and experience the other side of the Atlantic, and reunite with friends and family”, said Karl Sandlund, Chief Commercial Officer of SAS.

Since November, SAS has resumed operations to Miami (MIA) from the three Scandinavian capitals, which means the airline will offer daily flights to Florida. In addition, the airline will increase its operation in November from New York/Newark (EWR) to two daily flights from Copenhagen (CPH), Stockholm (ARN), and Oslo (OSL).

From Chicago, SAS has a current operation of one daily flight from Copenhagen (CPH) and in mid-December expects to restart Stockholm (ARN) with three weekly flights.

During the year-end holiday season, the company will increase frequencies to Washington Dulles (IAD) and from the West Coast to Los Angeles (LAX) and San Francisco (SFO).

All SAS transatlantic operations will be operated by Airbus A330-300 aircraft and the company’s new flagship Airbus A350-900, reducing fuel consumption by 15% to 30% compared to the aircraft it is replacing.
