Viva Aerobus, Mexico’s ultra-low-cost carrier, launched this Nov. 24, the first two new routes that will operate from Felipe Ángeles International in Mexico City to Monterrey and Guadalajara.
According to a press release, both routes will begin on March 21, that is, from the first day of operations of this new airport. The two routes will offer a daily flight.
These new routes are in addition to the service that the airline currently offers at the Benito Juárez International Airport in Mexico City.
Likewise, to facilitate transportation to the new Felipe Ángeles Airport, Viva Aerobus will offer its exclusive “Viva Bus” service for its passengers that will take them between the airport and the Central Bus Terminal at the North of Mexico City.
“Viva Bus” frequencies will be programmed to match the flights’ departure and arrival times for the convenience of Viva Aerobus passengers.
“Starting a commercial operation at the Felipe Ángeles Airport responds to the growing demand that has been registered in recent years in Mexico’s Valley Metropolitan Area. Viva Aerobus’ commitment is to continue connecting destinations so that more people could access convenient, safe, and reliable air transportation. We see an opportunity in this region, and we will be there to offer passengers the best service with the youngest and most modern fleet in Mexico and with the lowest prices”, said Juan Carlos Zuazua, Viva Aerobus’s CEO.
The Viva Aerobus business model allows it to operate simultaneously in multiple airports in the same city or region, making point-to-point flights, with low fares.
According to the Mexican ultra-low-cost carrier, it has given timely follow-up to the development, certification, and studies regarding the viability and safety of operations at this new airport in line with its objective of constantly exploring growth opportunities that seek to strengthen the country’s connectivity in strategic destinations.
The Santa Lucía Military Air Base, located in Zumpango, State of Mexico, and just 45 km from the Benito Juárez International Airport of Mexico City (AICM), will be transformed into the Felipe Ángeles International Airport, which will join the AICM and the Toluca International Airport as part of Mexico City’s airport network.
According to the Mexican government, the new Felipe Ángeles International Airport objectives will be:
- Decrease the AICM high traffic.
- Provide medium and long-term attention to airport services at Mexico’s Valley.
- Improve the national airport system connectivity.
- Increase operational efficiency, service quality and airport connectivity.
- Strengthen the competitiveness of the regional and national economy.
